Congratulations Solar Electric Light Fund (SELF)! My favorite solar charity received the King Hussein Leadership Prize today. The prize is awarded annually to anindividual, institution or group who has demonstrated exceptional humanitarian leadership in promoting sustainable development, human rights, equity, and peace. SELF aims to end energy poverty by providing clean reliable energy to some of the two-billion people currently living without electricity. Energy provides access to other basic rights like clean water, agricultural irrigation, healthcare, education, and economic empowerment. Solar electric capacity can make a huge impact in the third world. The amount of power our computers could be used to light several households after dark. The sun will help power electric irrigation systems to better feed local villagers. Every kilowatt counts.
