Want to save $15,000 a year? Switch bulbs today!
Light Emitting Diodes, LEDs, are the most energy efficient and eco-friendly choice. They run about $55/bulb. Compact Fluorescent bulbs are a cheaper alternative around $3/bulb but are sometimes scrutinized for their mecury content. The bulbs are not harmful if properly recycled. The most common are incandescent bulbs that are quickly becoming a thing of a past despite their $1.30/bulb price tag.
The upfront cost of the energy-efficent bulbs will quickly pay off given that a 6-watt LED will replace a 14-watt CFL or a 60-watt incandescent bulb.
Now let’s look at the savings, assuming you have 30 incandescent light bulbs in your house that you use 5 hours a day with energy costs of $.18/kwh you will spend $21,000 on energy and bulbs. If you switched to CFLs you would spend $5,000 a year on energy and bulbs, a $15,000 savings. Even better, if you choose LEDs you would spend $3,500 a year on energy and bulbs, a $17,000 a year savings.
